realities of being a woman/female physician/doctor1 min read

Today’s inane image of the day:

Although the gender gap in medical schools has recently closed, women physicians still face challenges. I’m frequently asked what the relevance of my work in @amwadoctors is… and well, here are a couple reasons we still have work to do on gender equity:

▸ No one assumes you’re *the* doctor. Or a doctor at all.
▸ There are fewer role models in leadership positions.
▸ There exists a stigma/negative connotation/resentment with childbearing.
▸ Imposter syndrome permeates… which can hold female physicians back.
▸ Sometimes, women don’t support other women.
▸ Women still get paid less than their male counterparts.

We have made a lot of progress over the years, but there’s still more work to do. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments below!
