The internet was once a really nice place

When I started blogging here on the internet in 2011, it felt like I was writing to no one. I was an early adopter of online journaling – I used Xanga and LiveJournal and loved playing with designing on those platforms and also sharing all of my angsty thoughts on the internet. Anyway, fast forward to 2011, I am about to start at a brand new medical school, I am working as an engineer, and I am also about to start a long-distance relationship. I thought, why not document this journey and also why not share about this crazy adventure I am embarking on?!

I loved [still love!] the community I built. It was small. It was cozy. There were really nice comments. I felt like this was all I needed to keep writing and sharing. At some point, my study plans made it higher up in the internet search ranks so people were appreciative of my musings there. Everyone was so uplifting and positive and nice.

Now… people are just not nice. The internet has changed.

This is the excuse I am telling myself, at least.

REGRETS: early college [high school dropout], long distance relationship, throwing away my 20s?

Today’s inane image of the day:

I was inspired by a question I was asked during a medical school interview: “What do you regret most?” At the time [over TEN years ago now… whew, I’m getting old], I answered that I regretted going to an early college. Looking back, there are a couple of things that I may have regretted at one point or another:

1. Going to an early college
2. Being in a long distance relationship
3. Throwing away my 20’s [to become a doctor]

But over time, my perspective on these things has changed. Watch the video to learn more about why! I’d love to hear how you’d respond to this interview question on YouTube!

How much money do I make on YouTube?! (1.2k subs)

Today’s inane image of the day:

Some people join YouTube and create videos because they think it’s a “get rich quick” option. I can tell you that I *won’t* be quitting my day job as a doctor to do this full-time. Nor did I start this channel with the purpose of making money; I just really wanted a creative outlet. That being said… it doesn’t *hurt* to potentially have another revenue source…

In this video, I go over EXACTLY how much money I’m making from YouTube with 1.2k subscribers and 20 videos. It might surprise you.

VLOG: impulse buy [Sony ZV-1 unboxing and testing]

Today’s inane image of the day:

I NEVER treat myself… so it was a bit out of character when I decided one random Saturday evening that I was ready to pull the trigger on a Vlogging camera. I’ve been recording all of my YouTube videos using my iPhone 11 pro and while it has been working for me, I CRINGE every single time I am editing these videos because of how grainy the video often is and how flat the audio is. It totally makes listening to myself more painful that it already is!
